5 simple ways to be more sustainable in your kitchen

Sustainable kitchen

1. Use Reusable Towels

Unpaper towels, dish towels

2. Beeswax Food Wraps

What you might be using now: Plastic wrap, saran wrap, cling wrap

Stop using plastic wrap, saran wrap, and cling wrap! These one time use plastic products might seem like small plastic pieces, but all together they are terrible for the environment. Canadians throw away over 3 million tonnes of plastic waste every year. Only 9% is recycled while the rest ends up in our landfills, waste-to-energy facilities or the environment. Try using Beeswax Food Wraps as an eco alternative. They are made with 100% cotton, beeswax, resin and jojoba oil which makes them natural, antibacterial, and breathable.  You can wrap you food directly in the beeswax wrap or used it as a cover on a container or dish.  See how your food stays fresher for longer!

3. Cotton Baggies or Beeswax Baggies

What you might be using now: Ziplock Bags

Replace those plastic ziplocks with cotton or beeswax baggies. Perfect for lunch on the go.

4. Reusable napkins

What you might be using now: Paper napkins

Why not use cotton reusable napkins instead of paper napkins? Find a pattern that suits your style and make your kitchen pop even more. Throw them in the wash and dryer with your other laundry.  Super simple!

5. Reusable Produce Bags

If you have already started using reusable tote bags for your grocery shopping – great! But you can go even beyond tote bags to be more sustainable by using reusable mesh product bags! Think of all the different produce items you might buy – carrots in a plastic bag, broccoli in a plastic bag, apples in a plastic bag – all of which might go into yet another plastic grocery bag, or a tote bag. Cut down on all that plastic!
